JetBlue adds buy-now-pay-later option for travelers

JetBlue Airways will let travelers pay for flights in installments through a partnership with embedded financing provider ClarityPay, while linking the option to its TrueBlue loyalty program.

Flexible payments, loyalty points, and longer terms

The airline announced the program will offer repayment plans from six weeks to 48 months on purchases between $50 and $50,000. Customers can book flights before paying them off and use the option for family members if the relationship can be verified. The service does not allow combining ClarityPay with other payment methods.

A 0% interest rate promotion will apply for up to 12 months on eligible transactions. Starting in 2026, JetBlue intends to reward customers with extra TrueBlue points when they book using ClarityPay.

The airline already accepts credit cards, debit cards, and digital wallets such as PayPal, Venmo, and Apple Pay. PayPal’s buy now, pay later feature remains available for those who prefer it.

JetBlue selected ClarityPay because its credit model reaches more customers than traditional pay-later services, making flexible payments available to a broader audience.

Travel industry leans into installment plans

ClarityPay, which serves other travel brands including Club Wyndham and Sports Illustrated Resorts, integrates directly into checkout systems, providing tailored lending options at the point of sale.

Interest in installment payments within travel is rising. Intelmarket Research forecasts the sector will grow at a 13.3% annual rate from 2025 to 2034, potentially reaching $47.61 billion globally by the end of that period. The market is valued at $15.82 billion this year.

For customers, the benefit lies in breaking large expenses into smaller payments. This approach mirrors trends in e-commerce, where installment plans have become standard for purchases ranging from electronics to clothing.

Loyalty programs as a differentiator

Connecting the installment option to TrueBlue points gives JetBlue an edge over competitors. Most airlines reward points for flights, but few tie them to financing. The strategy could push more customers toward JetBlue’s plan instead of credit cards or PayPal’s buy now, pay later service.

A spokesperson for ClarityPay confirmed this is the first collaboration between the two companies. Neither party disclosed financial terms or projected user numbers at launch.

The partnership arrives as airlines explore new ways to attract customers.
